Jetstar genuinely cares
‘Mum, I should cancel my flight’, the son says. Wendy was assisting an elderly passenger who had missed her flight as she was feeling unwell prior to boarding. Her guilt-stricken son, who was due to depart on another flight, repeatedly mentioned staying behind and missing his flight to care for her instead. He was reluctant to leave his mother behind in Singapore. Wendy was greatly touched by what she witnessed and fighting back the tears, she stepped forward and assured the son that his mother would be well-taken care of.
Wendy had arranged for a hotel in the airport and took care to book his mother on the next available flight. Together with an airport representative, both ensured she was well rested all the while keeping her son updated. But Wendy did not stop there. She went an even extra mile to arrange for a blanket for her use on board the flight and inform the flight crew as well.
Wendy insists that what she had done was nothing but a small act of kindness. But her gesture of going the extra mile has reaped great rewards. Wendy became the first airline employee to receive the ‘Extra Mile’ award by Changi Airport Group. Being recognized was one thing, but to win an award left her speechless. ‘I want passengers to know that flying low cost does not mean that you should expect low or no service, we do genuinely care’, Wendy says.

Everything is possible together
Six years in, the family in Jetstar still amazes her – you could feel the team spirit everywhere. Wendy can never forget how the Jetstar family came together when there was a crisis in ground handling. The workers did not turn up for work; there was massive flight delays and thousands of passengers were affected and frustrated. But, Jetstar did not give up.
For 2 consecutive days, every team stepped forward and supported in every area possible. Some were deployed to attend to our upset passengers, some assisted in the baggage or ramp area. It was so heartwarming to see how everyone stood together as One Team.
Experiences like these reminded her how at Jetstar you worked alongside great people who weren't just workmates, they are your friends, your one team, your family.
