The big challenge

It has been three weeks in Jakarta and Terence couldn’t wait to see his family again despite his daily video calls with them. All this time he had been working with his team members on replacing dual engines on an aircraft impacted by volcanic ash.

Little did he know the challenges he and the team would face. It was rare having to replace an engine off base let alone two engines at the same time.

Back in Singapore, everyone knew where everything was and there was a full team on hand to call in for support where needed. However, in Jakarta, immersed in a new environment and relying on the go-team, Terence was challenged to be at his most resourceful and needed to be agile and efficient to stay on top of the situation. It was amazing what could be achieved with passion, purpose and teamwork.

Well within the deadlines set and with placing safety as their number one priority, Terence and the team managed to replace the engines and conduct their final checks before he signed off the aircraft to duty. It was with a great sense of satisfaction seeing the aircraft finally taking off against the Jakarta sunset back to her homeland, Singapore.

The idea

After working in Jetstar for more than 5 years, Terence embraces process improvements and opportunities to innovate and do things faster and better.

One highlight in his work on the Jetstar Asia’s A320 fleet, Terence noticed that our aircraft fuselage sticker decals -wore off quickly and the frequent replacement can be costly. He saw an opportunity and quickly suggested to replace them with paint stenciled decals which are more durable and cost effective. He was happy and encouraged that his idea was so readily accepted and implemented. Jetstar Asia now has the fleet undergoing this change when they are in the hangar for scheduled maintenance.
